CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

The beautiful new Wyndham Gettysburg is the site of the 2008 PAHRA Spring Conference & Exhibition. The conference agenda focuses on current issues, new technologies, peer to peer exchanges, as well as innovations and ethics sessions. Renee Rooker, President of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials brief the delegates of the happenings in Washington, D.C. and how we can affect and achieve more and better housing and community development. The Exhibition, with nearly 30 exhibitors, will present the latest in equipment, products and services that we can use to improve our operations and knowhow. Exhibition 2008
The 2008 PAHRA Exhibition anticipates that nearly 30 exhibitors will present their latest goods and services for your consideration and use. PAHRA President, Jerry Mullarkey, will open the Exhibition with a Pizza Party at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, June 1. All functions during the conference including a special “Lunch with the Exhibitors” on Monday will be held in the Exhibit Hall. Prize drawings will be conducted by Mike Washowich at the Exhibition’s closing, 12:30 P.M., on Tuesday, June 3.

PAHRA Scholarship Fund Golf Outing
The beautiful Links at Gettysburg will host this year’s golf outing on Tuesday afternoon, June 3. Dan Kanuch, Ed Christiano and Mike Washowich are organizing the fund raising event. Pre-registration is required by May 23. Please see Golf Registration Information.

Penny Eddy Volleyball Tournament
Penny Eddy has retired as the executive director of the McKean County Redevelopment and Housing Authorities, but this event, named in her honor, continues on Tuesday afternoon. Pre-register via the check-off box on the Conference Registration Form. (No additional fee.)

Tour into History: The Battlefield at Gettysburg
The Battlefield at Gettysburg is a National Military Park. After the last conference session on Tuesday, tour participants will board a special tour bus and be given a guided tour of the historic sites that surround the town of Gettysburg including Little Round Top, the Confederate Lines, Picket’s Charge and the site where Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address. You will be back at the hotel in plenty of time for the evening’s festivities. (Additional fee required.)

President’s Reception & Pennsylvania Barbecue
This annual mouth-watering event is scheduled for Tuesday evening, June 3. It is generously being co-sponsored by the Housing and Redevelopment Insurance Exchange (HARIE) and is included as part of the full conference registration, guest registration, exhibitor registration, and golf outing fee. PAHRA President, Jerry Mullarkey, will preside over the ceremonies. A entertaining presentation, known as the Brain Show will take place after dinner followed by music and dancing..

Wednesday Morning Closing Breakfast
The traditional Wednesday Morning Closing Breakfast will end the conference. PAHRA has secured the services of Phil Berger to present the topic of Identity Theft and how it affects public agencies and how these agencies must comply with the federal and state laws.

Accommodations
The Wyndham Gettysburg, a new deluxe hotel is located in a development on the outskirts of Gettysburg, adjacent to U.S. Route 30. It features upscale accommodations, beautiful meeting rooms and exhibition hall, plenty of convenient parking, swimming pool, fitness center, wireless high speed internet access throughout the hotel, and wonderful food and beverage service in its public rooms. It is an attractive setting for PAHRA’s Spring Conference and Exhibition.

The nightly conference room rate is $134.00 for a single and $144 for a double. The room rate includes a hot buffet breakfast each morning in the exhibit hall. Delegates must make their own reservations directly with The Wyndham Gettysburg (717-339-0020) by 5:00 P.M. MAY 9, 2008 to obtain the rate and assure availability. The PAHRA Training Committee members and the committee chair, Kelly Hicks, and co-chair Ken Pick, present you with this information-packed agenda, venues for interaction with providers of goods and services at the exhibits, time for interaction with your peers, as well as leisure-time activities.
